Benfica have stepped up their efforts to land Algerian winger Anis Hadj Moussa, submitting a substantial new offer as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
The Portuguese giants are eager to secure the services of the 22-year-old, who delivered a standout campaign with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie.
With Ángel Di María’s departure creating a void on the right flank, Benfica have identified Hadj Moussa as their top target to inject dynamism and flair into their attack.
According to Dutch reports, Benfica recently returned to the negotiating table with an improved bid worth €18 million plus an additional €3 million in performance-based bonuses, raising the total package to €21 million.
However, despite the sizeable offer, Feyenoord remain reluctant to part ways with one of their key assets.
The Rotterdam club, guided by head coach Robin van Persie, views Hadj Moussa as an essential component of its future plans.
Signed from Belgian side Patro Eisden for €3.5 million in the summer of 2024, the Algerian international has quickly risen to prominence.
In 43 appearances across all competitions last season, he contributed 11 goals and six assists, becoming one of Feyenoord’s most consistent attacking threats.
Van Persie is reportedly determined to retain the winger, with club sources suggesting that only an “irrefutable” offer would be entertained—believed to be in the region of €20 million paid upfront.
While Benfica’s latest proposal comes close, the structure of the deal appears to fall short of Feyenoord’s expectations.
“Hadj Moussa is central to our project,” an unnamed Feyenoord insider was quoted as saying. “His development has been rapid, and he has a critical role to play next season. We’re not in a position where we need to sell.”
Complicating matters further for Benfica is the growing interest from other European clubs, with Liverpool reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

The Premier League side has yet to make a formal bid but could enter the race should negotiations between Benfica and Feyenoord stall.
As things stand, the Lisbon club is expected to return with an enhanced offer in a final push to land Hadj Moussa.
Whether that will be enough to convince Feyenoord to part with one of their breakout stars remains to be seen.
The tug-of-war over the Algerian forward looks set to dominate headlines in the coming weeks, with Benfica refusing to give up and Feyenoord determined to hold firm.
