It’s the headline-grabbing moment in football today!
But beneath the sensationalism, there’s a somber tale.
During a substitution in Monday’s triumphant match against Celta Vigo (3-0), Angel Di Maria, the Argentine player for the club, found himself amidst controversy for a peculiar gesture towards his genitals, accompanied by the crowd’s disapproval.
The club’s official statement reveals, “Real has initiated an investigation to shed light on the incident.”
Di Maria, in his defense, stated, “I made a routine gesture while exiting. There was no intention to offend the audience or the coach. It was a natural action that every man performs (…) Such moments are common on the field. If anyone felt uncomfortable, I extend my apologies, but on TV, it’s evident it lasted a fraction of a second. It’s insignificant, not a deliberate and prolonged act.”
