Steven Biver, the official spokesperson for the Belgian Football Association, has expressed his views on the positive impact of the current Belgian league system, citing its ability to enhance the excitement and competitiveness of the tournament, particularly during crucial stages.
In an exclusive statement to FilGoal.com, Biver stated, “The current format of the Belgian league has undoubtedly increased the thrill and anticipation during the decisive phase of the championship.”
He elaborated, “The media and most fans eagerly anticipate the pivotal matches, considering them the climax of the season.”
Furthermore, Biver highlighted, “Additionally, the final stage of the regular competition, when determining the teams advancing to the decisive phase, adds an extra moment of excitement.”
When questioned about the reasons for implementing the current system in the Belgian league, Biver explained, “We aimed to elevate the quality of the Belgian league by scheduling more matches between top teams during critical periods.”
He continued, “Increasing the number of matches was not the sole objective; rather, our goal was to heighten excitement, competitiveness, and the overall quality of the teams.”
Regarding the complaints from some clubs about the current system, Biver remarked, “Some clubs express concerns about the current Belgian league system, arguing that the decisive stage coincides with the final stages of European competitions.”
Finally, addressing the possibility of reverting to the traditional system in the future, Biver stated, “Since the current system is a decision made by the clubs, reverting to the traditional system may always be a possibility.”
