Belgian-Guinean winger Malick Fofana’s injury return delayed

Belgium international of Guinean descent Malick Fofana’s return to action has been delayed, as Lyon is yet to include him in their matchday squad, signaling a slight delay in his recovery.

Fofana suffered a severe ankle sprain in late October, forcing him off the pitch on a stretcher. He subsequently underwent successful surgery on the ankle, but continues to experience post-operative pain.

A recent MRI confirmed that his ligaments have healed correctly, though he has required injections to manage ongoing discomfort.

The injections are expected to aid his recovery, and there remains a possibility that Fofana could be included in Lyon’s squad for their upcoming match against Paris FC on Sunday. If not, he is likely to return the following week against Le Havre AC.

Time is critical for Fofana, who will also be aiming to participate in Belgium’s forthcoming international fixtures to strengthen his case for a spot in Rudi Garcia’s World Cup squad.

His recovery progress will be closely watched by both Lyon and the Belgian national team as he seeks to regain full fitness and form.

The 20-year-old has been limited to just nine games this season, scoring two goals and providing an assist due to persistent injury setback.
