Belgian-Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku dedicates Manchester City derby win to Ricky Hatton

Belgian winger Jeremy Doku has dedicated Manchester City’s emphatic 3-0 Premier League victory over Manchester United to the late Ricky Hatton.

The 23-year-old attacker produced a standout performance at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, just hours after news broke that the former boxing world champion had died at the age of 46.

Doku, whose parents are from Ghana, was instrumental in City’s display on the left flank, stretching United’s defence and supplying the cross for Phil Foden’s opening goal in the 18th minute.

The result, sealed by two second-half strikes from Erling Haaland, strengthened City’s grip on the title race and ensured the champions retained local bragging rights in Manchester.

Speaking after the game, Doku admitted the occasion carried extra emotional weight.

“The atmosphere was incredible and it was very sad to hear,” he told Sky Sports. “We know important this game is, and this win for him.

“This is football, but we know how much football can change people’s lives so we were happy we could dedicate this win to him.”

The young winger also reflected on the intensity of the contest and City’s strong start.

“I enjoyed every minute of (the game). For the game, you’re very excited as it’s a derby and we know the task we have, we want to win every game,” he said.

“From the first minute I felt we were really in the game and focused. It turned out well, so I’m very happy.”

City manager Pep Guardiola praised Doku’s maturity and consistency after the match, highlighting his growing influence in big fixtures.
