Belgian midfielder of Congolese descent Orel Mangala is returning to Olympique Lyon after an uninspiring loan spell with Everton.
The former Nottingham Forest midfielder secured a deadline-day switch to Everton last summer with a lot of expectations.
While with the Toffees, Orel Mangala played 19 matches in the English Premier League and had to spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines due to an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury.
With the 2024/25 football season coming to an end, Everton have confirmed that the midfielder is returning to Olympique Lyon.
“Belgium international midfielder Mangala returns to French club Lyon having played 21 times before sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury in the 1-0 win at Brighton in January,” a statement from Everton said.
Mangala’s loan move to Everton included no option to make his switch to Merseyside permanent.
Information gathered indicates that Olympique Lyon will look to transfer the player this summer to raise funds to balance their books.
