The inaugural DZ Best Awards, organized by Dz Match, celebrated the achievements of players, coaches, and teams in the Algerian football championship.
Hosted on Tuesday, the ceremony highlighted standout performers from the 2023/2024 season, with several key figures receiving accolades.
Dib Claims Top Player Honor
CS Constantine’s attacking midfielder Brahim Dib emerged as the night’s standout winner, clinching the Abdelhamid Merakchi Prize for the best player in Ligue 1.
Dib’s remarkable 12-goal tally from last season solidified his claim to the award, edging out Youcef Belaïli, who had a stellar spell with MC Alger before moving to Espérance Tunis.
While Belaïli missed out on the top honor, his contributions to Algerian football did not go unrecognized.
The Rachid Mekhloufi Prize for the best Algerian player in Africa was awarded to the 31-year-old for his impressive start at Espérance Tunis, where he recorded eight goals and nine assists in just 14 matches.
Goalkeeping and Youth Awards
USM Alger’s Oussama Benbot took home the Mehdi Cerbah Award for best goalkeeper, recognizing his consistent performances for the reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions.
Meanwhile, JS Kabylie’s Lahlou Akhrib received the Youcef Bouzidi Award as the best young player, showcasing the league’s promising future talents.
Best Coach and Team Awards
The Mahieddine Khalef Award for the best coach went to Kheïreddine Madoui of CS Constantine, a decision some observers viewed as contentious, particularly with former MC Alger coach Patrice Beaumelle in the running.
Despite this, MC Alger had reason to celebrate, winning the Moh Chérif Hannachi Award for the best team of the season.
Zougrana Shines as Best Foreign Player
Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Zougrana, a key figure for MC Alger, was honored with the Albert Ebossé Prize, named in tribute to the late Cameroonian striker of JS Kabylie.
Zougrana’s dynamic performances earned him widespread acclaim, with some fans even calling for his naturalization as an Algerian citizen.
Recognizing Excellence in Algerian Football
The DZ Best Awards provided a platform to honor exceptional contributions across Algerian football.
While Brahim Dib and Mohamed Zougrana earned individual accolades, the ceremony highlighted the depth of talent in the league and underscored the achievements of teams like MC Alger.
As Algerian football continues to grow, events like these will play a crucial role in celebrating and promoting its brightest stars.
