The proposed construction of a 35,000-seat stadium by David Beckham near the port of Miami has encountered opposition from various stakeholders.
The former Manchester United and PSG player aims to build the stadium for his new team. However, his project faced criticism in an open letter published in the press. The letter, co-signed by several parties, expressed concerns about the potential risks the stadium could pose to local jobs, cruise activities, and transportation operations.
The signatories of the letter argue that the construction of the stadium at the Port of Miami could jeopardize thousands of jobs, particularly in industries such as shipping and cruise operations. While they support the idea of a sports franchise in Miami, they believe that several alternative sites would be more suitable for the stadium, emphasizing that the Port of Miami is not an appropriate location.
Despite the opposition, Beckham, who retired from professional football in 2013, has partnered with two businessmen to establish a football franchise in Miami to compete in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-tier soccer league in the United States.
