The Tahitian team missed the chance to reach their first-ever Beach Soccer World Cup final, especially in front of their home crowd. Despite a strong start, the Tiki Toa couldn’t withstand the experience of Russia, the reigning world champion, in the first semi-final.
At the beginning of the match, the Tahitians faced the superior skills of the Russians. Despite initiating a strong offensive, the hosts were countered by Russia, who took the lead with a free-kick from Dimitri Shishin (1-0) at halftime.
Determined to redeem themselves, Tahiti entered the second half with renewed determination. They succeeded in equalizing with a long shot from Patrick Tepa. However, their joy was short-lived as Shishin once again tilted the balance in Russia’s favor. Despite Tahiti managing to score a goal, their dream was shattered with a third goal against them. They did manage to reduce the score, but Russia accelerated the game, securing two additional goals and advancing to the final as the host nation.
