Bayern Munich, featuring Choupo-Moting and Mazraoui, faced a setback in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg against Lazio, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat. Despite being the favorites, the Munich-based team failed to secure a victory after a challenging week.
Following a disheartening 0-3 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the league just days ago, Bayern Munich aimed to reclaim their confidence on Wednesday evening as they faced Lazio in the Champions League round of 16.
However, their aspirations were dealt another blow as they suffered a 1-0 defeat on Lazio’s home turf.
The first half concluded with a goalless draw, leaving both teams seeking a breakthrough. Unfortunately for Bayern, the turning point came in the second half when Dayot Upamecano’s challenge resulted in a penalty for Lazio.
Upamecano’s mistimed tackle led to his expulsion, paving the way for Immobile to convert the penalty successfully in the 64th minute.
Despite the late entry of Choupo-Moting, Bayern Munich struggled to level the score, and the match concluded with Lazio securing a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory.
The defeat places Bayern in a precarious position, and they now face the daunting task of overcoming the deficit in the return leg at the Allianz Arena in three weeks to avoid elimination from the tournament.
