Bayern Munich are actively negotiating with winger Leroy Sané, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, to secure his stay at the club.
The 29-year-old has attracted interest from Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal. However, Sané has expressed a preference to remain with the Bundesliga champions.
Born in Essen, Germany, Sané has deep African roots; his father, Souleymane Sané, is a former Senegalese international footballer, and his mother, Regina Weber, is a German former rhythmic gymnast.
According to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich has proposed a contract extension until 2028, contingent upon Sané accepting a significant salary reduction.
Currently earning €20 million per season, the new deal would see his base salary decrease to €10 million, with performance-based incentives potentially increasing his earnings to €15 million annually.
Despite the financial implications, Sané is reportedly inclined to accept the revised terms, demonstrating his commitment to the club and its future ambitions.
This season, he has made notable contributions, scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists in the Bundesliga. His overall performance across all competitions includes 12 goals and 4 assists in 38 games.
Bayern Munich’s director of sport, Max Eberl, has acknowledged Sané’s importance to the squad and indicated that discussions are progressing positively.
