FC Bayern Munich have opened fresh negotiations with Dayot Upamecano over a contract extension that would tie the French centre-back to the club until 2030.
The German champions are eager to secure the defender’s long-term future ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with discussions showing early signs of progress.
Upamecano, who is of Guinea-Bissau descent, joined Bayern in 2021 from RB Leipzig and has since grown into a key figure at the heart of the defence.
The 26-year-old has featured in over 120 matches across all competitions for the Bavarians, contributing not only defensively but also with goals and assists.
Although his current deal runs until 2026, Bayern are keen to reward his performances and ward off interest from rival clubs across Europe.
Talks between the club and the player’s representatives are ongoing, and while no final agreement has been reached, both parties are reportedly aligned in principle on extending the deal.
The contract renewal is seen as a strategic step by new head coach Vincent Kompany, who views Upamecano as integral to his tactical plans for the upcoming season and beyond.
Bayern aim to finalise the extension before the summer transfer window opens on June 10, giving the club clarity as they prepare for domestic and international competitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup.
