Bayern Munich ease Jamal Musiala fears but rule him out of Stuttgart opener

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany says Jamal Musiala is “doing relatively well” after a series of worrying collapses, but the Germany international will not feature in Friday’s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart.

Musiala, 23, took part in team training on Thursday, less than 24 hours before the defending champions begin their title defence. However, Kompany confirmed the midfielder will not be included in the squad for the match and said his return would be managed entirely by the club’s medical staff.

“Generally speaking, Jamal is doing relatively well. He’s participating in team training today. He won’t be in the squad tomorrow. He’s getting used to the increased medication. He’ll be back in the squad at some point and play. We’re making the decision…”

The update means Bayern will begin the new Bundesliga campaign without Musiala, as they face Stuttgart in a demanding first test in their bid to retain the league title.
