Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany is keeping faith that defender Dayot Upamecano could still feature before the curtain falls on the season.
The 26-year-old French centre-back had been sidelined with a loose joint in his left knee, forcing him out of action since late March. Though the setback required surgery, Upamecano resumed running on April 9 and is currently pushing hard in rehab.
Originally, it was feared he would be out for at least three months, but his recovery has sparked fresh optimism within the Bayern camp. Kompany, speaking at a press conference on Friday, shared an encouraging update.
“If you look objectively at what he’s doing now, it looks good. If each of the next steps goes well, we have hope that he will be back this season,” said the Belgian coach, as quoted by Bild.
Upamecano’s return could prove crucial as Bayern chase a strong finish, and Kompany’s belief might just fuel the final push.
