Claude Makelele Targets PSG Talent to Replace Retiring Mickaël Landreau at SC Bastia
New SC Bastia coach Claude Makelele is actively searching for a successor to veteran goalkeeper Mickaël Landreau, who recently announced his retirement.
According to L’Équipe, Makelele has identified Alphonse Areola, the promising young goalkeeper he previously coached at Paris Saint-Germain, as his primary target. However, Bastia’s sporting director has reportedly expressed a preference for Yohann Pelé, the experienced shot-stopper currently with Sochaux.
Makelele, who served as an assistant to Laurent Blanc at PSG, may have the edge in securing Areola’s services. Young PSG players often find first-team opportunities limited due to the star-studded squad, making loan moves a common path to gain experience.
In addition to the goalkeeper hunt, Makelele is said to be close to finalising the loan of PSG striker Hervin Ongenda, further bolstering Bastia’s squad ahead of the new season.
