Giovanni Sio has been making a strong impression at Bastia since joining on loan from FC Basel, scoring four goals in just eight matches. The Ivorian striker has expressed his hope that Bastia will exercise their €2.5 million purchase option at the end of the season. However, Sio remains focused on helping his team achieve their objectives for the season before discussing his future.
In an interview with L’Équipe, Sio stated: “This is not the time to talk about it. We must first achieve our objectives. Only then will we sit down around a table with my agent and the management to discuss.”
Sio, who previously had a difficult stint at Wolfsburg due to a lack of communication with the management, feels much more at home at Bastia. Reflecting on his career, he said, “Today, I think I confirmed my debut and proved that I could make an impact in this Championship. I thank Bastia for allowing me to do this.”
Even if Bastia doesn’t exercise the purchase option, Sio remains optimistic about his future. He mentioned that the ideal scenario for him would be joining a top-table club, with Lille, Saint-Étienne, Montpellier, and Nantes reportedly interested in his services. His form this season could certainly attract interest from higher-profile clubs in Ligue 1.
