Idrissa Gueye, the dynamic Lille midfielder, is making it clear that he has aspirations to take his career to the Premier League. While his current contract with LOSC runs until June 2018, the Dakar native is eyeing a move to one of the most prestigious leagues in the world, potentially as soon as this summer.
In a candid interview, Gueye stated: “I have some desire to leave, but I don’t know if it will be at the end of this season or the next. I have a preference for England but I’m not closed off. We’ll discuss it with the management at the end of the season.”
His strong performances in Ligue 1 have certainly caught the attention of potential suitors, and with 42 matches played in major European leagues, Gueye has built a reputation as one of the most durable and consistent players in the game. He has clocked in 3645 minutes on the pitch and will soon add his 43rd match to that tally when Lille face Bordeaux in Ligue 1’s 33rd matchday.
When asked about his exceptional stamina, Gueye kept it simple, saying, “I eat and drink like the others, it’s my nature, that’s how it is.” His relentless work ethic and natural endurance have made him a key player for Lille, and with his contract winding down, the club may face an uphill battle to retain him.
If he does make the move to England, he would likely thrive in the Premier League, where his box-to-box style and tenacity could be a perfect fit for many top-tier clubs.
