FC Barcelona will offer the number 10 jersey to Lamine Yamal ahead of the new football season.
The Spanish international of Moroccan descent, who has been wearing the jersey number 19 since his breakthrough, will take over the number 10 jersey following the departure of Ansu Fati, who has joined AS Monaco on a long-term loan deal.
Fati has worn the number 10 shirt since Argentine legend Lionel Messi left the club in the summer of 2021.
Reports in Spanish suggest that the leadership of Barcelona is seeking to showcase the No. 10 jersey on the pitch, with the sale beginning next Tuesday.
An official announcement of Yamal’s new number may take a few days, with the possibility of it coinciding with the player’s 18th birthday on July 13.
Yamal, who made his first-team debut late in the 2022-23 season, has worn the numbers 45, 27, and 19 and is considered one of the most promising young talents in European football.
Granting him the number 10 shirt, which carries a great legacy at the Catalan club, is a tribute to his brilliance and confirmation of his future role as a pillar of the team.
In 106 appearances for Barcelona, Yamal has scored 25 times for the club.
