Barcelona target Real Madrid record as Atletico Madrid seek eighth straight La Liga win
Barcelona will attempt to strengthen their position at the top of La Liga when they visit Atletico de Madrid on 08 November 2026, while also chasing a record last achieved at the stadium by Real Madrid.
According to Opta, Barcelona have won their past four away league matches against Atletico. Victory in this fixture would make them only the third side in La Liga history to win five consecutive away games at Atletico, after Athletic Bilbao won five in a row in 1955 and Real Madrid recorded six successive victories in 2013.
Atletico have won two of the clubs’ past five meetings in all competitions, compared with three victories for Barcelona. That represents a significant improvement on their previous 10 matches against the Catalan side, during which Atletico won once, drew once and suffered eight defeats.
Diego Simeone’s team arrive on a seven-match winning run in La Liga. Since the 2021-22 season, Atletico have produced a longer winning sequence only once, when they won eight successive league games in January 2025.
Barcelona’s away challenge
Barcelona have won all five of their away league matches in the 2026-27 season, scoring at least three goals in each match and producing a total of 22.
They have won their opening six away games in a La Liga season only twice before. In both 2010-11 and 2012-13, Barcelona won their first 10 away matches.
Atletico have scored seven goals from “Build Up Attacks” in La Liga this season. Only Barcelona have scored more through that method, with eight.
Barcelona have also scored 46 goals in their opening 11 league matches of 2026-27. Only Athletic Bilbao, with 49 in 1930-31, have scored more at that stage of a season in La Liga history. Sevilla also scored 46 after 11 matches in 1940-41.
Alvarez enjoys Barcelona fixtures
Julian Alvarez has scored four goals in nine appearances for Atletico against Barcelona in all competitions. No other opponent has produced more goals for him during his Atletico career; he has also scored four times against Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.
Barcelona forward Raphinha has scored 15 goals in 10 La Liga appearances this season. He is only the second player in the 21st century to reach that total after 10 matches of a league campaign, following Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 18 for Real Madrid in 2014-15.
Simeone has won 344 of his 565 La Liga matches as a manager, alongside 123 draws and 98 defeats. That moves him level with Luis Aragones for the most league victories by a manager in the competition’s history.
Aragones reached 344 wins in 756 matches, with 180 draws and 232 defeats.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has lost three of his 10 matches against Atletico in all competitions, winning six and drawing one. Atletico are therefore the side to have beaten him most often during his time in charge of Barcelona.
