Barcelona are close to sealing a record-breaking contract extension for teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal, which would see the 17-year-old become one of the highest-paid players at the club.
The deal, reportedly in its final stages, will significantly boost Yamal’s annual earnings and solidify his status as a key figure in the club’s long-term future.
Of Equatorial Guinean and Moroccan heritage, Yamal has swiftly risen through Barcelona’s ranks to become one of Europe’s brightest talents.
His impact at both club and national level has prompted the Catalan giants to move decisively in securing his services amid growing external interest.
According to Spanish journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon, the new contract would provide the forward with a gross annual salary of €30 million, supplemented by a yearly renewal bonus of €10 million—amounting to €40 million in gross compensation per season.
After taxes, Yamal’s net earnings would stand at approximately €20 million annually.
If finalised, the proposed deal would place Yamal ahead of seasoned stars like Robert Lewandowski on the club’s wage bill, signalling a dramatic shift in Barcelona’s pay structure.
Club executives view the investment not only as a reward for the youngster’s exceptional displays but also as a defensive measure to stave off interest from Europe’s elite.
While both parties are aligned in principle, discussions continue regarding the contract’s length, with options under consideration extending to 2030 or 2031.
It is also expected that performance-based review clauses will be included, beginning in 2026, allowing for adjustments based on Yamal’s development and impact.
