Barcelona produced the biggest victory in the history of the women’s El Clasico as they defeated Real Madrid 7-0 at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday.
Claudia Pina was the outstanding player, scoring four goals as Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the Spanish women’s league. The result moved them to 18 points, five clear of Real Madrid, who remain on 13 points.
Barcelona dominated from the opening whistle, using an aggressive high press and controlled passing to keep their opponents pinned back. They took the lead after only 227 seconds when Pina collected the ball on the edge of the penalty area before advancing into the box and beating Frohms with her left foot.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Cristobal then prevented a second goal, making an important save from a close-range effort by Guijarro. The Barcelona supporters had already begun celebrating before the attempt was kept out.
Real Madrid’s efforts to recover never developed into a sustained threat. Key attacking players, including Schroder and Caicedo, struggled to influence the match as Barcelona maintained control both through possession and on the counter-attack.
The second goal came from one of those counter-attacks. After Pajor’s initial attempt rebounded, Pina reacted first to steer the ball into the net and increase Barcelona’s advantage.
Pina completed her hat-trick after combining with Guijarro in a quick exchange before striking powerfully past Frohms with her right foot. Barcelona continued to find space, and Graham added a fourth after exchanging passes with Pajor, beating Lakrar and finishing the move impressively.
The first half ended with Barcelona five goals ahead and Pina having scored four. Once again linking up with Pajor, she used a clever touch to evade Real Madrid’s defenders before producing another fine finish.
Barcelona resumed the second half in the same manner in which they had ended the first. Guijarro’s long pass sent Graham through on goal, and the Norway international controlled possession before setting up Pajor, who scored Barcelona’s sixth of the evening.
The visitors were unable to stem the pressure as Barcelona continued to search for more goals. Schertenleib then struck from outside the penalty area with a powerful right-footed shot that surprised Frohms and found the net for the seventh.
The victory, highlighted by Pina’s four-goal performance, was described by Marca as the largest Barcelona win in the history of their El Clasico meetings with Real Madrid.
