Barcelona have made significant financial gains from the temporary exit of Ansu Fati, saving €8 million by sending the forward to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on loan, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo.
Born in Guinea-Bissau, Fati was once regarded as one of Barcelona’s brightest prospects, having broken into the first team as a teenager.
However, after a string of injuries and declining form, he struggled to maintain his place in the squad, prompting the Catalan club to seek options to reduce his impact on the wage bill.
According to financial details emerging from the deal, Barcelona have managed to save €5 million by restructuring and reducing Fati’s salary.
Additionally, Monaco have agreed to pay 50% of his current wages, resulting in a further €3 million saved through amortisation.
This brings the total to an €8 million financial relief for Barça, who continue to manage a tight salary structure amid ongoing economic constraints.
Furthermore, the French club holds a non-mandatory option to buy the 21-year-old for €11 million at the end of the loan spell.
Should Monaco exercise this clause, Barcelona could pocket further income from a player who, in recent seasons, has contributed little to the team’s success.
While the move marks a new chapter for Fati, who will attempt to reignite his career in France, it also reflects Barcelona’s pragmatic shift towards fiscal discipline and roster efficiency.
