Barcelona receive registration boost as four summer arrivals cleared for Elche
Barcelona have received a significant boost before their match against Elche, with Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon, Rodri and Joao Cancelo all given the necessary approval to be registered and made eligible for selection.
The quartet can now feature in the game if manager Hansi Flick decides the timing is right. However, Bissio will not be included in Barcelona’s squad because some bureaucratic procedures relating to his registration remain incomplete.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Joao Cancelo was the final one of the four new signings to receive clearance. His registration appeared on the official La Liga website at 10:30 on Saturday morning, while the player was taking part in training.
Barcelona began the registration process for their summer arrivals on Friday. Rodri was the first of the new players to receive the green light from the relevant authority, although he continued with an individual training programme rather than joining the main group.
Karim Adeyemi was subsequently added to La Liga’s registration records, before Anthony Gordon also received approval.
Cancelo’s clearance completed the process for the four players on Saturday morning. His registration was published while Barcelona were conducting their training session, meaning all four new arrivals are now available to Flick for the upcoming fixture.
The decision on whether any of them will play remains with the Barcelona manager. Their eligibility does not guarantee involvement, but it removes a significant administrative obstacle ahead of the match.
Rodri, the Madrid midfielder, continued to train separately for a second consecutive day. His individual work has continued despite the registration approval that allows him to be considered for selection.
Bissio is in a different position. Although he will hold a registration card with Barcelona Atletic, he will not be permitted to play against Elche because the remaining administrative steps needed to authorise his appearance have not yet been completed.
The player trained with Barcelona’s reserve side on Saturday as he waits for the outstanding procedures to be concluded. Once those requirements have been fulfilled, he can be registered in a way that enables him to take part in matches.
The developments provide Flick with greater choice before the Elche game, with four summer signings now formally cleared by La Liga. Barcelona had started the process only a day earlier, and the approvals were issued in stages, beginning with Rodri and ending with Cancelo.
Bissio’s situation remains unresolved, however, and he will therefore be absent from the squad for the next fixture. His registration with Barcelona Atletic means the administrative process is still continuing, but it does not yet allow him to play for the senior side against Elche.
