Barcelona have initiated informal discussions with representatives of France international Jules Kounde over a possible contract renewal, according to a report by Sport.
Club sporting director Deco recently met with Kounde’s agent, Jonathan Kebe, in what was the fourth conversation between both parties since the idea of an extension was first raised.
The focus of the latest meeting was to gauge the player’s willingness to renew his current contract, which expires at the end of June 2027.
Kounde, who has Beninese heritage, has become an integral part of Hansi Flick’s squad, noted for his tactical flexibility and consistency.
Deco reportedly outlined the club’s appreciation of the defender’s contributions and hinted at the prospect of improving his wages as part of the extension package.
However, negotiations are still at a preliminary stage, with no final proposal tabled yet.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, registering 53 appearances across all competitions.
In that time, he recorded 10 goal contributions—scoring four times and assisting a further six—while displaying his reliability across various defensive roles.
Barcelona consider Kounde a key asset and retaining his services beyond 2027 is seen as a priority heading into the new season.
