FC Barcelona have confirmed that PSG inquired about Spanish forward of Moroccan descent Lamine Yamal last summer.
According to Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, although the French Ligue 1 champions inquired about the teenager, no formal offer was made.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday outlining the club’s summer transfer strategy, Deco clarified that PSG merely made inquiries.
“Last season, some people asked questions about Lamine,” said Deco at a press conference transcribed by RMC Sport. “This season, no. PSG asked questions about him, Madrid did not. But we don’t ask about their players either.”
The remarks back earlier reports from Catalonia suggesting that PSG had been tracking the talented youngster. Despite speculation, including claims from Spanish news agency EFE that PSG had tabled a €250 million bid, Deco firmly denied any such offer was made.
PSG’s reported interest followed Yamal’s extraordinary 2023–24 season, during which he became the youngest player to score for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
While still under contract with FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal is set to extend for five additional years. His representatives have asked the club to make him the highest-paid player.
