There will be a new format for the election of the FIFA Ballon d’Or. FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced the change during his visit to the United Arab Emirates for the Under-17 World Cup final. Instead of the usual three finalists, the number will now increase to five, with their names being revealed on December 9.
While this adjustment may not significantly impact the final result, it introduces the possibility for candidates considered outsiders to be recognized among the top five. This change could potentially influence future editions of the award. Fans hope that the only African nominee, Ivorian Yaya Touré, will secure a place among the top five.
The Ballon d’Or award ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 13 in Zurich, Switzerland.
