Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini has praised Cedric Bakambu after the striker’s impressive performance in their 4-0 victory over Vitória in the Europa Conference League.
The DR Congo international scored twice as Betis secured a 6-2 aggregate win to reach the quarterfinals.
The experienced forward showed his sharpness in front of goal, helping his team dominate the match.
Pellegrini was pleased with Bakambu’s contributions, especially after the striker returned from a long injury layoff.
“He’s been improving his level for a couple of weeks now. In the first leg against Vitória, he scored the goal and had a header, a one-on-one with the goalkeeper and a shot off the post; he had four or five chances. He’s been showing it in training and I’m very happy for him.“
Bakambu had suffered a serious injury that kept him out for several months, but he is now regaining his top form.
“He was coming off a serious injury that kept him out for four or five months. He’s back to the level he’s shown throughout his career,” Pellegrini added.
The win was a dominant display from Betis, with goals from Antony and Isco adding to Bakambu’s brace. Pellegrini credited his team’s strong mentality and aggressive approach for the result.
With Betis now through to the next round, Pellegrini is confident that Bakambu and his teammates will continue to deliver strong performances in both Europe and LaLiga.
