Bafana Bafana need a miracle to qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup – Hugo Broos
South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has stated that the Bafana Bafana are in need of a miracle to secure qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Bafana Bafana suffered a setback in the qualification campaign on Friday evening when they drew goalless with Zimbabwe in Round 9 of the qualifiers in Group C.
The result means South Africa remains second in the group standings on 15 points, two behind Benin at the top of the table heading into the last game of the qualifiers.
Speaking in a post-match interview after the draw against Zimbabwe, Hugo Broos admitted that qualifying is now difficult because it is not entirely in the hands of South Africa.
He believes the Bafana Bafana now need a miracle to seal qualification to next year’s global showpiece.
“Now, it’s no longer in our hands. It becomes even more difficult now. But it’s not 100 per cent lost; we might also need a miracle. It’s a sad night for us,” Hugo Broos said.
South Africa, after the draw against Zimbabwe, must now eye a win against Rwanda in their last game.
Even with a win, the Bafana Bafana must hope Nigeria defeat Benin in their other deciding game. Any other result will send Benin through.
