Al Ahly have shaken up their backroom staff by deciding not to renew the contract of technical director Badr Ragab, ending his time with the club’s academy.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Cairo giants thanked Ragab for his contributions and praised his role in helping shape the technical foundation of the team. The announcement followed a key meeting between the club’s football planning committee and sporting director Mohamed Youssef, as Al Ahly prepare for the upcoming season.
Although the decision was described as respectful, with the club assuring that all of Ragab’s rights would be honoured, the move took many by surprise.
A source close to the matter told Kooora that Ragab was deeply saddened by the news. It reportedly came as a shock, especially considering he had left a high-paying role at UAE side Al Jazira two years ago to return to Al Ahly.
His departure now leaves a gap in the youth setup, raising questions about the direction the club plans to take next.
