Zahir Belounis, a Franco-Algerian footballer, was stranded in Qatar for almost a year due to a conflict with his club. Belounis was released on Wednesday, and upon his arrival at Charles de Gaulle airport in France, he made statements revealing the challenges he faced. He claimed to have been partly destroyed by the situation but clarified that his issue was with the club and not with Qatar as a country. Belounis, who played for the Qatari second division club Al-Jaish, stopped receiving his salary in 2012, leading to a legal dispute with the club. He arrived in Qatar in 2007 and even represented the Qatari national team in 2010.
