Tunisian international goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen will not continue his tenure with Al-Hazem, following the club’s relegation to the Saudi second division at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season.
In what was a challenging season, Dahmen has mutually agreed with the club’s management to terminate his contract, which still had one year remaining.
The 27-year-old made a financial concession, forfeiting a portion of his owed salary, to become a free agent on the market.
Dahmen’s arrival in Saudi Arabia in July 2023 did not go as planned. The goalkeeper faced a tough season, conceding 55 goals and achieving only six clean sheets in 25 matches.
Al-Hazem, the weakest team in the league, was relegated after a string of poor performances.
A return to Club Sportif Sfaxien (CS Sfaxien) seems imminent for Dahmen. Both parties have reached an agreement, but the goalkeeper will need to adjust his salary expectations to align with the financial capabilities of the Tunisian club.
Dahmen appears ready to make this compromise to revive his career with his beloved club.
Dahmen’s stint in Saudi Arabia had a detrimental effect on his career, particularly on the international stage.
He lost his position as the number one goalkeeper for the Tunisian national team, now trailing behind Béchir Ben Saïd in the pecking order.
Despite having 17 international caps and three starts at the 2022 World Cup, his time with Al-Hazem has been a setback.
The goalkeeper’s decision to leave Al-Hazem and potentially return to CS Sfaxien is seen as a strategic move to regain his form and prominence in football.
The upcoming seasons will be crucial for Dahmen as he looks to rebuild his career and reclaim his spot in the national team.
