Zamalek’s board, led by president Hussein Labib, has decided to bring back former club star Ayman Hefny, appointing him to a technical position within the academy setup.
The move comes as part of a wider plan to benefit from the experience of former players and club legends, and to place them in roles where they can guide the next generation.
The decision followed a friendly meeting between Hefny and Hazem Emam, deputy technical director of the youth sector, at the club’s headquarters in Mit Okba. During the talks, they agreed on the main outlines of Hefny’s new role, which will focus on developing young talents and passing on his unique on-field vision and skills to rising prospects.
Zamalek’s hierarchy believes that having a figure of Hefny’s stature in the youth department will provide both a technical and emotional boost, given his popularity among fans and academy players, and his reputation as a disciplined, talented and respectful professional.
His return also comes at a time when the club is working to rebuild and restructure its youth ranks under the supervision of a group of former stars and key figures associated with Zamalek’s identity.
