Austrian midfielder of Nigerian descent, Carney Chukwuemeka, will return to Chelsea at the end of the 2024/25 football season.
Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac confirmed this during his press conference ahead of the German Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim this weekend.
Carney Chukwuemeka signed for Dortmund on loan from Chelsea in the January transfer window in search of more playing time.
Although he has had the chance to play at Dortmund, injury setbacks have meant that he has not played regularly.
Speaking on the future of Carney Chukwuemeka at Dortmund, manager Niko Kovac said although he likes the player, he will be returning to his parent club.
“It’s clear that he has qualities and that I like him, that we all like him,” Kovac said during the press conference.
He added, “But Chelsea are smart enough to structure the process in such a way that they will benefit from it.”
Chelsea reportedly included a €35 million (£29.4 million) purchase option in the loan deal, but the West London club is now believed to be open to selling the midfielder this summer.
The Blues are understood to be looking for more money from any potential sale of the Austrian-Nigerian in the summer window.
