Spanish side Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Senegalese midfielder Habib Diarra this summer.
The club has reportedly expressed the desire to sign the 21-year-old captain of RC Strasbourg Alsace.
Sources close to the club reveal that Atletico have been monitoring Diarra’s performances closely and have already made contact with Strasbourg to explore the possibility of a deal.
The midfielder, who has four international caps for Senegal, is also on the radar of several English clubs, but Atletico’s growing interest has added a new dimension to the transfer race.
Strasbourg president Mark Keller recently confirmed that the club would entertain offers for Diarra, as long as they align with the interests of both the player and the club.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly engaged in discussions with Diarra’s representatives and sent scouts to assess him further in recent weeks.
A move to Atletico Madrid this summer will be a big step for Habib Diarra. He will be playing for a bigger club and playing alongside some of the big names in football at the elite stage of European competitions, such as the UEFA Champions League.
While the midfielder is valued at over €25 million, the Spanish club is yet to open formal negotiations with Strasbourg.
