Joshua Guilavogui, not included in Didier Deschamps’ list for the Brazil 2014 World Cup play-offs against Ukraine, has faced challenges since his decision to join Atletico Madrid last summer. Despite shining with Stéphanois in Ligue 1, the French international of Guinean origin has struggled to secure significant playing time with his new club, even though he had an appearance against Austria Vienna (4-0) in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Reflecting on his experience, Guilavogui admitted, “I am quite satisfied with my return to school. I learned humility again after arriving here this summer. I wasn’t in the group often, and when I was there, I didn’t come back. It was long.” He acknowledged the need to work hard in training to earn playing time, considering the competition in midfield at Atletico Madrid. Guilavogui emphasized, “It’s up to me to get in tune.”
Since his arrival at Atletico, Guilavogui has played only 37 minutes across all competitions, highlighting the challenges he has faced in adapting to his new club.
