Serie A club Atalanta Bergamo are reportedly keen on signing Algerian forward Rayan Cherki, believing the 21-year-old could thrive under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Cherki, who recently switched agents, is now the subject of serious interest from Atalanta’s management, with talks having taken place in recent weeks, per Sky Sports Switzerland.
Although no formal offer has been made to Lyon yet, sources suggest that Atalanta is preparing to submit a bid in the region of €25 million, with additional performance-related bonuses and a resale percentage.
Cherki has yet to engage in direct discussions with the Italian club, but the opportunity to join a side renowned for developing young talent in a less high-pressure environment than the biggest European clubs is an appealing prospect for the youngster.
Lyon, facing financial difficulties, are reportedly open to negotiations and may be forced to sell Cherki to balance their books.
Atalanta, with their reputation for unearthing young talent and maximizing its potential, are in a strong position to make a move for the highly-rated attacker.
