Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has expressed disappointment at Christian Benteke’s request to transfer. Despite the club’s efforts to build a competitive team, the 22-year-old Belgian striker, who scored 19 goals in the previous Premier League season, has expressed a desire to continue his career elsewhere.
Benteke joined Aston Villa from Genk for 9 million euros in the summer of the previous year and is contracted with the club until 2016. Although the club initially aimed to keep him, they have now indicated that they will not oppose his departure if an acceptable offer is made within a reasonable time frame.
Several English clubs, including Chelsea and Tottenham, are reportedly interested in signing the prolific striker, who is currently not with the team during their training in Germany.
