Asisat Oshoala netted a goal against her former team, Barcelona Femeni, as Bay FC endured a 5-2 defeat in a pre-season friendly held at PayPal Park. The 29-year-old Nigerian forward showcased her skills with a notable performance, despite the result.
Oshoala, who recently competed for Nigeria in the 2024 Summer Olympics, has made headlines with her return to the field.
The exhibition match provided a chance for Oshoala to face off against her old club, Barcelona Femeni, during the off-season.
The encounter marked only Bay FC’s second match against an international opponent, underscoring the significance of the fixture.
The game saw Bay FC start strongly. In the 17th minute, Oshoala capitalized on a misjudged pass from Barcelona goalkeeper Gemma Font.
Positioned near the edge of the box, Oshoala intercepted the ball and struck it into the lower left corner, giving her side an early lead.
Barcelona responded promptly, leveling the score just four minutes later.
Kika Nazareth scored from the edge of the box, with Ewa Pajor providing the assist after a well-timed dribble down the right flank.
The match was evenly poised at 2-2 by halftime, but Barcelona’s second-half dominance proved too much for the American side.
Following the match, Oshoala took to social media to express her appreciation for her former team and teammates.
On her X page, she posted a heartfelt message titled “Forever My Family,” reflecting her ongoing connection with Barcelona.
Bay FC will resume National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) action on Friday when they face the Portland Thorns at Providence Park.
