Two of Africa’s most prominent football figures, Asamoah Gyan and Clémentine Touré, have been confirmed as special guests for the official draw of the African Schools Football Championship, set to be held in Accra, Ghana, on 21 April.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the participation of the former Ghana Black Stars captain and the seasoned Ivorian coach as part of its efforts to highlight the importance of youth development across the continent.
Their presence is expected to elevate the stature of the event, which is aimed at nurturing grassroots talent and celebrating the continent’s future stars.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer and a revered figure in African football, will share the stage with Clémentine Touré, a pioneer in women’s coaching who has led the Ivory Coast women’s national team and championed the rise of female football in West Africa.
Joining them for the occasion will be two other African football icons: Robert Kidiaba, the former DR Congo goalkeeper known for his trademark goal celebrations, and Amanda Dlamini, a former South African international and current football analyst.
Together, they will help oversee the draw ceremony, which will determine the groupings for both the boys’ and girls’ competitions.
The final tournament will run from 23 to 26 April 2025 and will feature eight national school teams in each gender category.
Ghana, as host nation, will compete in both tournaments, while the likes of Uganda, DR Congo, and South Africa—defending champions in the girls’ category—are also set to participate.
This year’s edition marks a continued investment by CAF in youth-focused initiatives aimed at fostering talent and building stronger football foundations across Africa.
The African Schools Football Championship has gained momentum in recent years, providing young players with a rare platform to represent their countries in a structured, competitive setting.
The presence of football legends at the draw reflects CAF’s commitment to inspiring the next generation, with each of the invited guests having contributed significantly to the growth of the sport in their respective countries.
