Evan Ndicka was forced off with an injury during AS Roma’s pre-season match against RC Lens, exiting in the 40th minute after appearing to suffer a muscle issue.

The Ivorian centre-back, who has been a key figure in Roma’s defensive setup, showed signs of discomfort and did not return to the pitch, prompting initial concern among supporters.

However, early assessments from the club’s medical team have indicated that the injury is not believed to be serious.

Though Ndicka’s withdrawal raised alarm, the decision was understood to be a precautionary one. The defender was taken off to avoid aggravating the issue further, and the club remains optimistic about a swift recovery.

The full extent of the injury will be determined after a series of medical evaluations scheduled in the coming days.

Roma’s medical staff have downplayed the possibility of a prolonged absence, expressing confidence that the 24-year-old will soon be fit enough to rejoin team training. The club is expected to manage his workload carefully over the next week as a precaution, pending the results of diagnostic tests.

Ndicka’s injury comes at a time when Roma have been building momentum during their pre-season preparations. His presence has been vital in providing balance and structure to the back line.

Even a short-term absence will present a challenge, particularly given his growing importance to manager Daniele De Rossi’s plans ahead of the new Serie A campaign.

Supporters were relieved to hear that the issue is not considered long-term, especially after witnessing the discomfort that led to his early substitution.

The Ivorian defender, who joined Roma from Eintracht Frankfurt, has quickly established himself as a dependable figure at the heart of the defence and is expected to be a central piece of the squad heading into the 2025 season.

While Roma will await confirmation from further scans, club sources suggest there is no indication of a tear or significant damage. The muscle strain, believed to be minor, will likely keep him out of training for only a few days.

Ndicka’s brief spell on the sidelines serves as a reminder of the physical toll of pre-season matches, where clubs must balance the need for competitive fitness with player safety.

The coaching staff remains cautious, unwilling to take any risks with a player whose performances have been instrumental since his arrival in Italy.

AS Roma will continue their preparations with upcoming friendlies, hoping to have Ndicka available for selection once medical clearance is granted. The club will issue a formal update once test results are confirmed, but for now, the outlook appears positive for both the player and his team.
