AS Roma are reportedly exploring a sensational return for Mohamed Salah following the official announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season.

After nine legendary years at Anfield, the Egyptian forward has reached a mutual agreement to depart this summer, a decision that is set to save the Premier League club over £40 million in waived loyalty bonuses and remaining wages.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian side is now weighing up the prospect of bringing the 33-year-old back to the Stadio Olimpico, where he previously excelled between 2015 and 2017 before his move to England.

A return to Serie A would represent a romantic homecoming for Salah, who scored 34 goals in 83 appearances for the Giallorossi. However, significant financial hurdles remain for the Italian club.

Roma has recently implemented a stricter salary cap, reportedly around €4 million per season, which sits well below the winger’s current earnings at Liverpool.

While the lure of a return to a former home is strong, Roma would likely face stiff competition from the Saudi Pro League and Major League Soccer, where clubs like Al-Ittihad and San Diego FC are prepared to offer record-breaking financial packages that Roma would struggle to match.

For Liverpool, the early termination of Salah’s contract—originally set to run until 2027—provides a clean break and vital funds for a summer rebuild.

The club is already linked with younger talents such as Michael Olise and Francisco Conceicao to fill the void on the right wing.

Regardless of his choice, his departure marks a transformative moment for both Liverpool’s finances and their tactical future.
