Italian giants AS Roma have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with French side RC Lens to sign Moroccan midfielder Nael El Aynaoui.

The move comes after Roma’s pursuit of Palmeiras star Richard Reus hit a dead end, prompting the club to turn their attention to the promising 24-year-old.

Under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Roma is actively bolstering its squad ahead of the new season.

Alongside El Aynaoui, the club has secured the transfer approval for Brighton’s Ivan Ferguson and is closing in on Flamengo’s Wesley, with whom they have already reached terms.

The competition for the midfield spot narrowed down to El Aynaoui following the failed negotiations for Reus.

Roma and Lens are expected to finalize the paperwork soon, with El Aynaoui’s contract at Lens running until summer 2027.

Roma had reportedly offered around €30 million, including bonuses for Reus, but Palmeiras stood firm on their valuation, frustrating Roma’s management and ultimately halting the deal.

Now, all eyes are on the completion of the El Aynaoui transfer, signalling Roma’s commitment to strengthening their midfield options.
