AS Monaco's rising star Yanis Benchaouch joins Morocco under-20 squad

The Morocco national under-20 team is gearing up for two high-profile friendly matches against England and the United States, slated for March 21 and 26, respectively. As preparations intensify for these encounters, coach Mohammed Ouahbi has bolstered his squad with the inclusion of promising goalkeeper Yanis Benchaouch, currently plying his trade with the U19 team of AS Monaco in Ligue 1.

Hailing from Périgueux in Dordogne, Benchaouch is set to celebrate his 18th birthday on April 10, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning football career.

Having clinched the Gambardella Cup with AS Monaco’s U18 side last season, the talented shot-stopper has already caught the eye of observers with his exceptional skills between the posts.

Despite his young age, Benchaouch has already tasted the senior footballing arena, earning a spot in the Monegasque squad during their Ligue 1 fixture against Stade de Reims on October 7, where they secured a resounding 3-1 victory.

While he didn’t feature in the match, his inclusion in the squad at just 17 years old underscores his immense potential and the confidence placed in him by the AS Monaco coaching staff.

Benchaouch’s prowess was further highlighted during his participation in the U21 Tournament in Ploufragan last summer, where he emerged as the standout goalkeeper of the competition.

His stellar performances, particularly against English side Bournemouth, left a lasting impression and underscored his ability to compete at the highest level.

Now, as he joins the Morocco under-20 squad for their upcoming friendlies, Benchaouch brings a wealth of talent and promise to the team.

His inclusion is seen as a significant boost for Morocco’s aspirations, as they aim to showcase their strength against formidable opponents on the international stage.

With Benchaouch’s remarkable potential and dedication, the future looks bright for both the goalkeeper and Moroccan football.
