Moroccan side, AS FAR will stick with Alexandre Santos as head coach despite their elimination from the CAF Champions League.
Despite losing the first leg 4-1 in Cairo, the Royal Army recorded a 2-0 win on Tuesday in the return leg in Morocco to end the game 4-3 on aggregate.
Despite the speculation of a possible sack, a source close to the club has revealed that the hierarchy will keep the Portuguese coach.
“It is true that Santos’ contract includes a condition stipulating qualification to the semi-finals as one of the criteria for his continuation, especially since he took over the team after securing qualification from the group stage,” the source said.
“However, the contract also includes other existing goals, such as competing for the league runner-up spot and winning the Throne Cup.
“Santos will continue in his duties until the end of the season, after which his performance will be evaluated. It is true that there was disappointment with the result of the first leg against Pyramids, but the performance and fighting spirit shown by the players in the second leg in Meknes satisfied everyone within the club.”
He concluded: “Therefore, there is no truth to the reports of his departure. The coach will continue to lead the team in the Throne Cup race and try to secure second place in the league in order to return to continental participation next season.”
