Former Ivory Coast defender Arthur Boka has expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of Egyptian star Mohammed Salah from the African Player of the Year Award
Salah joined Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson as the notable omission from the shortlist for the awards Gala, held in Morocco in December 2024.
The final lists released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) included Rowen Williams of South Africa, Simon Adingra of Ivory Coast and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Serhou Guirassy of Guinea and Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman.
However, Nigeria international Ademola Lookman emerged as the eventual winner of the top award.
“I am surprised that Mohamed Salah was excluded from the list of candidates, which opened the door to questions.” He told Koora in an interview.
Meanwhile, Arthur Boka has urged Mohammed Salah to stay at Liverpool amid contract extension brouhaha.
“I hope Salah continues with Liverpool because he has become an icon for the Reds and has a large fan base.”
