Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka ruled out for a month with hamstring injury

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka will be sidelined for three to four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the club’s 5-0 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium.

The setback came during Arsenal’s first home match of the Premier League season on Saturday, August 23. While the Gunners cruised to a dominant win, manager Mikel Arteta was forced to make two unwelcome substitutions that clouded the celebrations.

Saka, who had scored Arsenal’s second goal, was withdrawn early in the second half and replaced by Leandro Trossard. Earlier in the match, captain Martin Ødegaard had also been taken off with a shoulder issue, prompting concerns over the fitness of two of Arsenal’s most influential players.

At the time, Arteta admitted he was uncertain about the severity of either injury and awaited medical results before commenting further. Those tests have now confirmed that Saka will miss close to a month of action, ruling him out of several key fixtures, including Friday’s clash against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Ødegaard, by contrast, has been handed better news. His shoulder problem is not considered serious, and he could still feature in this weekend’s high-profile encounter with Liverpool. Even if he is rested, the Norwegian is expected to return far sooner than his teammate.

For Arsenal, however, Saka’s absence represents a considerable blow. The 23-year-old remains one of the club’s most pivotal figures, providing goals, assists, and creativity from the right flank. His consistency and reliability have made him an automatic starter under Arteta, and replacing his influence will be no easy task.

With a packed early-season schedule, including both domestic and European fixtures, Arsenal will now be forced to rely more heavily on attacking alternatives such as Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and young Ethan Nwaneri, who was called upon to replace Ødegaard against Leeds.

The timing of Saka’s injury is particularly frustrating for Arteta, whose side had begun the season with back-to-back victories and appeared to be building early momentum in their push for the Premier League title. Maintaining that rhythm without their talismanic winger will test the depth and adaptability of the squad.

While Saka begins his rehabilitation, Arsenal supporters will be hopeful that his recovery proceeds without complications and that he returns in full form once his month-long absence concludes. Until then, Arteta must navigate a series of demanding fixtures without one of his most trusted players, ensuring the team’s strong start to the campaign does not falter.
