Alexandre Song Reveals Arsenal Loan Move Rejected, Explains West Ham Choice
Former Arsenal midfielder Alexandre Song has revealed that he sought a loan return to the Gunners during the winter transfer window but was turned down by Arsène Wenger.
Speaking to L’Equipe on Sunday, the Cameroonian international expressed his disappointment but showed understanding of the club’s decision. “I would have liked to come back, but they didn’t want to. That’s life. I don’t blame them,” Song said.
He also pointed to a similar situation involving former teammate Cesc Fàbregas. “Cesc Fabregas also wanted to return to Arsenal, who didn’t want to exercise the buyout option. It’s surprising. When you see what he’s doing at Chelsea. He’s stronger than before!”
Despite opportunities elsewhere, Song explained why he chose to join West Ham over other interested clubs. “I could have played in the Champions League in Italy, at Napoli, or at AS Roma in Turkey. I could have played in France too, at Marseille. But my priority was to come back to England. For me and for the family. We feel good here.”
Song has quickly adapted to life at West Ham, describing the club as “one I didn’t know and with whom things work rather well.”
West Ham are enjoying a strong campaign, currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table—just one point shy of fourth-placed Southampton.
