Premier League outfit Arsenal have moved to offer a new contract to Franco-Cameroonian defender Williams Saliba.
The 24-year-old has emerged as a transfer target for Spanish giants Real Madrid as the summer transfer window approaches.
In an attempt to ward off interest, the Gunners has opened negotiations over a new contract with the talented defender.
Saliba’s current contract with the Premier League giants is expected to expire in the summer of 2027.
Real Madrid are keen admirers of the 24-year-old and have been in talks with the defender’s representatives for several weeks over a potential transfer.
The La Liga club are ready to negotiate to sign the Arsenal star this summer but are likely to wait in order to negotiate a more cost-effective transfer.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are willing to wait until 2027 to sign Saliba on a free transfer. However, they may not get the opportunity should he sign a new deal with Arsenal.
The Gunners are yet to offer a new deal, but negotiations have commenced. Saliba is happy at the club, but will want new terms to reflect his status, given the interest shown in his services.
