Arsenal have opened negotiations with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as the Gunners step up their efforts to secure the winger in what could be one of the summer’s headline transfers.
With Tottenham Hotspur reportedly withdrawing from the race to trigger Eze’s £68 million release clause, the path now appears clear for Arsenal to push ahead with a formal approach.
Eze, who is of Nigerian descent, has become a major target for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta following an impressive season at Selhurst Park.
The England international delivered 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign, reinforcing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most technically gifted and versatile attacking midfielders.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Arsenal have made initial contact with the player’s representatives, stating: “Arsenal have made contact with Eberechi Eze’s camp over the weekend… contacts are taking place for Crystal Palace star with Arsenal informed on deal conditions.”
Although Tottenham had earlier expressed strong interest, their unexpected withdrawal has strengthened Arsenal’s position.
Reports also suggest that Eze is a boyhood Arsenal fan—a factor that could further tip the scales in the Gunners’ favour.
With Arteta keen to strengthen his options on the left flank, Eze is viewed as a significant upgrade on both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
His ability to play across multiple attacking positions adds to his appeal.
Eze’s £68 million release clause is payable in instalments, but Arsenal are believed to be in a position to meet the full amount outright, ensuring a smooth transaction in compliance with financial fair play regulations.
