English club Arsenal are assessing Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey to ascertain his fitness ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg encounter against Real Madrid.
Partey, 31, was in action for the Gunners over the weekend when Arsenal played against Brentford in the English Premier League.
The Black Stars midfielder scored his team’s only goal on the matchday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the opponent.
Unfortunately, Thomas Partey received a knock during the game and had to be substituted.
Addressing the situation in his post-match interview, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the concern but remained cautious about drawing conclusions.
“Thomas Partey felt something so we didn’t want to take any risks. We don’t know — I haven’t spoken to the doctors yet,” Arteta said.
Today, Africasoccer has learned that Arsenal are continuously assessing the midfielder and hoping he will be fully recovered from the knock before Arsenal’s trip to Spain on Wednesday to face off with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg.
Arsenal already lead 3-0 on aggregate and wants to advance to the semi-final.
